Adi Kailash Yatra from Kathgodam with Om Parvat Darshan

The Adi Kailash Yatra from Kathgodam is not just a route—it’s a gradual unfolding of the Himalayas.

From the calm lakes of Kumaon to the raw silence of the Indo-Tibetan border, this journey takes you through Om Parvat, Nabi, Kuti, and the sacred Adi Kailash region, blending spirituality, history, and high-altitude adventure.

Unlike commercial trips, this path follows the ancient Vyas Valley trade route, once used by pilgrims heading toward Mount Kailash.

And at its heart lies:

  • Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash) – a sacred mirror of Mount Kailash
  • Parvati Sarovar – still waters reflecting divine silence
  • Om Parvat – where nature itself writes “ॐ”

But what truly defines this Yatra?

Not just destinations—but moments:

  • Sitting quietly beside a glacial lake
  • Listening to stories in Himalayan villages
  • Driving along cliffs carved beside the Kali River

This is not tourism.

This is a living Yatra.

Highlights

  • Darshan of Mount Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash)
  • Experience the reflection at Parvati Sarovar (Gauri Kund)
  • Witness the sacred symbol at Om Parvat

The Gateway to the Adi Kailash: Jageshwar → Dharchula (The Borderlands)

From sacred Kumaon to the Himalayan frontier

Today, the journey leaves the temple forests of Jageshwar behind and moves deeper towards Dharchula, a historic Himalayan border town on the banks of the Kali River.

    • The Journey: After breakfast, depart from Jageshwar and travel through the changing landscapes of Kumaon towards Dharchula, where the mountains become more rugged and the journey begins to feel distinctly Himalayan.

    • The Immersion: Spend the evening around Dharchula and the Kali River, taking in the mountain air and the atmosphere of this remote border region before the expedition climbs higher towards Gunji and Nabi.

    Dharchula → Elagad Waterfall → Tavaghat → Budhi → Chiyalekh → Gunji / Nabi

    Into the High Himalayas

Today, the journey leaves Dharchula behind and follows the dramatic Kali River corridor, gradually climbing towards the remote high-altitude villages of the Adi Kailash region.

    • The First Stop: En route to Tavaghat, pause at Elagad Waterfall, one of the striking natural features along the mountain road. The rushing water and steep Himalayan surroundings offer a memorable first glimpse of the terrain ahead.
    • The Road Gets Dramatic: Beyond Tavaghat, the route winds deeper into the mountains. Just before Budhi, experience the famous S-Bend, where the road curves tightly around the Himalayan slopes.
    • The 36 Hairpin Bends: After Budhi comes one of the most memorable stretches of the journey — the series of 36 hairpin bends climbing towards Chiyalekh. The road itself becomes part of the experience as the landscape rises dramatically around you.
    • The Alpine Threshold: Arrive at Chiyalekh, a spectacular high-altitude meadow known for its open grasslands and seasonal alpine flora. This is where the landscape begins to feel unmistakably high Himalayan.
    • The Arrival: Continue towards Gunji / Nabi, important settlements on the Adi Kailash route, and settle into your traditional Himalayan homestay.

The Pinnacle – Adi Kailash Darshan: Gunji / Nabi → Kuti → Jolingkong (4,700m)

    Gunji / Nabi → Kuti → Jolingkong → Adi Kailash & Parvati Sarovar → Gunji / Nabi

The Sacred Heart of the Journey

Today takes you deeper into the high Himalayas, towards one of the most significant experiences of the entire Adi Kailash Yatra.

    • The Approach — Through Kuti Valley: Begin early from Nabi and travel towards Kuti Village, one of the remote settlements of the region. As the road climbs towards Jolingkong, the landscape gradually changes from green Himalayan valleys to stark, expansive high-altitude terrain.
    • The Arrival — Jolingkong: Reach Jolingkong, the base area for the Adi Kailash experience, at high altitude. From here, continue on foot towards Parvati Sarovar, taking the journey at a comfortable pace and allowing time for acclimatization.
    • The Sacred Convergence — Parvati Sarovar: At the lake, the magnificent Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash) rises across the landscape. The surrounding mountains, still waters and profound silence create a moment that feels very different from conventional sightseeing.
    • The ThrillVana Moment: This is a place to slow down. Put the phone away for a while. Sit quietly, take in the mountains and allow yourself to simply be present. For many travellers, this becomes one of the most memorable moments of their Adi Kailash journey.
    • The Sacred Sites: Visit Parvati Temple and, where locally permitted and personally desired, participate in optional Puja or Tarpan. The surrounding landscape offers views of Brahma Parvat and the Pandav peaks.
    • Optional Gauri Kund Trek: Travellers who are physically comfortable and appropriately acclimatized may choose to continue towards Gauri Kund. This is an optional high-altitude walk and should only be undertaken based on individual fitness, acclimatization, weather and local conditions.
    • Local Pony Support: Pony services may be available from Jolingkong through local providers. Availability, route access and charges are subject to local conditions. Travellers choosing this option directly support the local mountain economy.
    • Return to Nabi: After spending time in the Adi Kailash region, return to Nabi. The day's landscape gradually disappears behind you, but the experience often stays much longer.

    Drive: ~6–7 hrs round trip*
Highlights: Adi Kailash Darshan · Parvati Sarovar · Kuti Village · Parvati Temple · Optional Gauri Kund

The Sacred Syllable – Om Parvat: Nabi → Kalapani → Om Parvat → Narayan Ashram

    Where Nature Meets the Sacred

Today takes you towards Om Parvat, one of the defining experiences of the Adi Kailash Yatra, before descending towards the peaceful surroundings of Narayan Ashram.

    • The Sacred Source: Travel towards Kalapani, a significant point in the upper Kali River region, surrounded by dramatic high-altitude Himalayan terrain.
    • The Journey to Om Parvat: Continue towards Nabhidhang, the viewing point from where travellers can experience the distinctive natural formation on Om Parvat. Weather, visibility and local conditions determine how clearly the formation can be seen.
    • The Moment: When the mountain reveals its natural Om-like pattern, pause and take it in. There is no need to rush this experience — sometimes the most powerful moments of a Himalayan journey are the quiet ones.
    • A Deeper Himalayan Story: Along the route, the landscape is intertwined with ancient traditions and stories associated with the region, including Ved Vyas Cave and other sacred sites.
    • The Retreat — Narayan Ashram: After the high-altitude experience, descend towards Narayan Ashram, a spiritual and socio-educational centre established by Narayan Swami in 1936 at approximately 2,734 metres. The ashram includes a school for local children, youth training facilities, a library, meditation room and samadhi site.
    • The Evening: Slow down at the ashram and allow the pace of the journey to change. After the intensity of the high Himalayas, Narayan Ashram offers a quieter space for reflection and connection with the surrounding mountains.

    Drive: ~7–8 hrs*
Highlights: Kalapani · Om Parvat Darshan · Nabhidhang · Narayan Ashram

Narayan Ashram → Patal Bhuvaneshwar (Mystical Descent)

From the High Himalayas to the Sacred Depths

After the high-altitude landscapes of the Adi Kailash region, today's journey takes you towards Patal Bhuvaneshwar, one of Uttarakhand's most remarkable underground cave temples.

    • The Descent: Leave Narayan Ashram and travel through the changing landscapes of Kumaon as the high Himalayan terrain gradually gives way to lower mountain valleys.
    • Arrival at Patal Bhuvaneshwar: Reach the ancient cave temple complex near Gangolihat and prepare to enter a world where natural rock formations, mythology and centuries of devotion come together.
    • Into the Cave: The temple is located inside a limestone cave system. The entrance leads visitors deep underground, where naturally formed stalactites and stalagmites have been interpreted through Hindu religious traditions as representations of various deities and sacred forms.
    • A Living Tradition: Local traditions associate the cave with Lord Shiva and numerous Hindu deities, while the site is also traditionally connected with the Pandavas and Adi Shankaracharya. These are religious and cultural traditions associated with the site rather than geological or historical claims that can all be independently established.
    • The Experience: Move slowly through the cave and observe the remarkable formations illuminated along the passage. Here, the experience is as much about atmosphere and contemplation as it is about sightseeing.
    • The History: A site discovered in the Treta Yug and rediscovered by Adi Shankaracharya.

    The ThrillVana Moment

From high peaks to sacred depths.

After days spent beneath vast Himalayan skies, Patal Bhuvaneshwar offers an entirely different experience — a journey inward, beneath the mountains, where nature and faith have shaped a remarkable sacred space.

    Patal Bhuvaneshwar → Bhimtal

The Journey Ends. The Yatra Stays.

After the sacred depths of Patal Bhuvaneshwar, the journey begins its return through the Kumaon hills towards Bhimtal.

    • The Return: Leave Patal Bhuvaneshwar and travel through the changing landscapes of Kumaon, gradually moving away from the remote Himalayan terrain.
    • The Pause: Arrive in Bhimtal, where the pace of the journey slows down. After several days of mountain roads, high-altitude landscapes and sacred experiences, this is a time to rest, breathe and reflect.
    • The Reflection: The mountains may be getting farther away, but the experiences of Adi Kailash, Parvati Sarovar, Om Parvat, Narayan Ashram and the Himalayan villages remain close.

The Expedition Blueprint: An Odyssey to the Sacred

Women's Special — Important Information

A Journey Designed for Women, With the Himalayas Taken Seriously
The Adi Kailash Women's Special is a women-only Himalayan journey designed for travellers who want to experience the spiritual and natural beauty of the region in a thoughtfully coordinated group.
This is a remote, high-altitude journey. The experience is deeply rewarding, but it also requires preparation, flexibility and realistic expectations about mountain travel.

Group Size
The Women's Special is limited to 20 women.
A smaller group allows for closer coordination, smoother movement through remote areas and a more personal journey experience.

Travelling Solo?
You don't need to have a travel companion to join.
Solo women travellers are welcome to join the group and experience the journey alongside other women.
Accommodation is generally on a twin-sharing basis. In remote locations such as Gunji/Nabi, Narayan Ashram and Patal Bhuvaneshwar, group sharing may be required depending on local accommodation availability.

Physical Fitness & High-Altitude Travel
This is not a conventional leisure tour. The journey involves:
Long mountain drives
High-altitude travel
Remote Himalayan roads
Walking on uneven terrain
Changing weather conditions
Simple accommodation in remote locations
A reasonable level of fitness and preparation is therefore important.
Previous trekking experience is not mandatory, but participants should be comfortable with the demands of remote mountain travel.

Acclimatization
The itinerary progressively moves from the lower Kumaon hills towards higher Himalayan terrain.
Adequate rest, regular hydration and following the team's guidance are important while adjusting to altitude.
Our team provides practical acclimatization guidance and monitors oxygen levels at key high-altitude points.

Gauri Kund — Optional
The Gauri Kund section is optional.
It should only be undertaken if you are appropriately acclimatized, physically comfortable and local conditions permit.
You can experience the core Adi Kailash and Parvati Sarovar journey without undertaking the optional section.
Pony services may be available through local providers for applicable sections, subject to availability, route conditions and local regulations. Any such service is additional.

Accommodation
The journey includes a combination of:
Hotels · Himalayan Homestays · Ashram Stays
Twin sharing is the standard accommodation arrangement.
In remote locations, accommodation may be basic and group sharing may be required.
This is part of travelling through the remote Himalayas, and we recommend coming with realistic expectations rather than expecting conventional hotel facilities throughout the route.

Meals
The package includes Breakfast & Dinner as specified.
Food in remote Himalayan locations is generally simple, fresh and suited to the local environment.
Lunch, snacks, beverages and meals not specifically mentioned in the selected package are not included.

Permits & Documentation
Required Inner Line Permits (ILP) and documentation support are handled by the ThrillVana team as part of the journey.
Participants must provide the required documents and information within the timelines communicated before departure.

Weather & Road Conditions
Himalayan weather can change quickly, particularly at higher elevations.
Road conditions can also be affected by:
Weather
Landslides
Road closures
Local administration
Permit restrictions
Other unforeseen circumstances
The itinerary, route sequence or timings may therefore be adjusted when necessary.

Luggage
Beyond Dharchula, luggage may be subject to a 15 kg per traveller limit, depending on vehicle capacity and the nature of the mountain route.
We recommend carrying only essential belongings for the high-altitude section.
A detailed packing list will be shared before departure.

Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is not included.
We strongly recommend obtaining appropriate travel insurance that covers high-altitude travel and the activities involved in the journey.
Please read the policy conditions carefully before purchasing.

Emergency & Medical Considerations
The journey includes:
Basic first aid
Oxygen support
Pulse oximeter monitoring at key high-altitude points
Acclimatization guidance
However, this is not a medically supervised expedition, and emergency evacuation or unforeseen medical expenses are not included in the package.
Participants should consider their individual health and fitness before booking and seek appropriate medical advice where necessary.

Our Approach
We don't promise that the Himalayas will be easy.
We promise to prepare thoughtfully, travel responsibly and communicate honestly about the journey.
Because the real luxury in the Himalayas isn't excess.
It's knowing that someone has thought through the journey.
